Research Interests:
Cellular mechanisms controlling the water permeability of the root plasma membrane. Plant Aquaporins (water channels) cellular localization, gating, trafficking and regulation. CO2 conductance through aquaporins at the mesophyll membrane. Root conductivity response to the levels of drought, salinity, nutrients, oxygen, temperature and heavy metals in the soil.
Whole plant transpiration use efficiency, abiotic stress resistance.
Research Projects:
- Aquaporins roles in the plant stress response, stress resistance and productivity, in particular of crop plants under salinity and drought conditions.
- The tonoplast (vacuole) role in determine the plant isohydric/anisohydric behavior.
- The role of aquaporins in the whole plant momentary transpiration, water-use efficiency and hydraulic conductivity regulation.
- The vascular bundle-sheath cells regulation of leaf hydraulic conductance, leaf water potential, stomatal regulation and xylem-ABA sensing.
- Development of quantitative criteria to screen Pinus species regarding their resistance to water deficiency and water-use efficiency.
- Improving the ability of Israeli winter rainfed grain crops to face temperature and water instability.
- Developing high-throughput screening system for plant transpiration-use efficiency, growth rates and productivity prediction under normal and stress conditions at an early developmental stage.
