BASIS Russia Project 2001 - 2004

This three-year research project supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development as part of its BASIS/CRSP collaborative research support program focused on the development of factor markets in Russian agriculture – markets for labor, purchased inputs, land, and credit. The project leaders, Bruce Gardner from the University of Maryland at College Park and Evgeniya Serova from the Analytical Centre on Agri-Food Economics in Moscow, organized a group of Russian and Western researchers whose work produced two comprehensive publications, both edited by Zvi Lerman from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem:

Factor Market Constraints on Economic Growth in Russian Agriculture, special issue of Comparative Economic Studies , Vol. 47, No. 1 (March 2005).

Russia’s Agriculture in Transition: Factor Markets and Constraints on Growth, Lexington Books, Lanham, MD (2008).

These publications are dedicated posthumously to the memory of Bruce Gardner, who died prematurely in March 2008. Without him none of this would have happened.

The links below are to a set of questionnaires (in Russian and English) that were used to conduct a survey of some 600 respondents as part of the project.
