Bacteria are our indispensable partners. They are essential for nutrient cycling, atmospheric processes, and strongly impact upon the health of both plants and animals. They play important roles in geological processes, and their influence on human activities cannot be overstated. For example, we spend our working lives studying them and teaching about them.
