Postdoc/PhD/MSc Position Opening
I study fluid flow in granular, porous materials such as soils and rocks. I focus on phenomena
in which the coupled, collective behavior of pore-scale mechanisms leads to significant changes in the medium's hydraulic and/or mechanical properties.
Examples for such mechanisms include the creation of preferential flow paths, mechanical deformation of the solid matrix, and fluid-fluid or solid-fluid chemical reactions.
I gain fundamental understanding of the underlying physics through a combination of theory, numerical simulations and experiments. Current research topics include gas invasion into soft sediments, soil wetting and drying, carbon geo-sequestration and gas hydrates.
