The AGFA Curix 60 Film Processor carries out automatically the different stages of film processing. The film is deposited into the receiver tray on the left, and a series of rollers transports it through the developer, the fixer and wash-water tanks and the dryer section. The film exits the dryer and is deposited into the receiver tray.
Typical applications include imaging of gels labeled with radioactive isotopes, or with fluorescent or chemiluminescent probes. The gel is attached to the film in a light-tight enclosure for the time period required to obtain the best results.
Exposed photographic films need to be chemically processed in order to produce the desired image. Development does three things: it transforms the latent image into a visible image that can be seen, it makes the visible image permanent and resistant to deterioration with time and it renders the film insensitive to light. All these steps are carried out within the processing machine with automatically controlled time and temperature.
